DUAL 1228 turntable, Indian apple veneer, shellac

Dual 1228 turntable - a classic turntable in a beautiful finish with natural Indian apple veneer. Clear sound and unique appearance. Fully functional.

Dual 1228 - a turntable with a traditional idler drive, manufactured in the early 1970s. This is a version with a wooden plinth (housing), covered with natural Indian apple veneer. The whole thing is finished with over 30 layers of classic shellac polish (so-called "French polish" technique). The equipment offers clear and full sound combined with a unique design. The turntable has a built-in stroboscope for precise regulation of the platter speed.
The set includes a disc changer spindle - it allows automatic listening to several records, one after the other.

Upon request, we can prepare the turntable for use in the USA free of charge (replacement of the motor pulley and change of electrical connections and adaptation of the motor to an electrical voltage of 110-125 V, 60 Hz).

The turntable has been completely inspected and renovated - the old grease has been removed, the entire mechanism has been cleaned and re-lubricated. All its elements have been checked and subjected to appropriate service and calibration activities. The engine has undergone a comprehensive technical inspection and lubrication - it maintains the correct rotation. The grease in the arm lift has been replaced with a new one, the lift works with the correct resistance.

The turntable mechanism has normal signs of use, has minor scratches and abrasions. There are also minor scratches visible on the platter.
Overall, the turntable is in a nice visual condition - details are visible in the photos.

The turntable is functional, all functions work correctly. Dual 1228 - is fully automatic: allows you to start with one lever, after the end of playback the arm automatically returns to the starting position. Starting and stopping can also be initiated manually, bypassing the automatic systems. Allows you to listen to vinyl records at two speeds: 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. Additionally, the turntable is equipped with "Anti-Skating" and "Pitch-Control" controls, which allow for greater control over the sound being played.

The whole thing works properly and offers a full, balanced sound. An original, used Dual DMS 220 cartridge with a spherical stylus is installed. The cartridge and stylus are in very good condition (data regarding the cartridge and stylus are given based on electrical measurements and microscopic examinations).
The headshell can accommodate all cartridges with a 1/2 inch mount, weighing from 2 to 8 g (0.07 oz to 0.28 oz) - including mounting elements.

After using the appropriate element (so-called spindle), it is possible to automatically listen to up to 6 records - one after the other. The spindle is included with the turntable.

Finishing technique used.
The wooden plinth (housing) of the turntable is made of wood, covered with natural Indian apple veneer and finished with a classic wood decoration technique, i.e. shellac polish with a tampon (another name for "French polish"). In this case, over thirty layers of polish were applied.

This is a traditional, manual technique used for hundreds of years, among others, to decorate and protect wooden furniture, musical instruments, works of art and also in the conservation of monuments.
Shellac polish, like no other finishing coating, wonderfully brings out the grain of the wood, gives it a beautiful color and, penetrating the wood structure, an unprecedented depth - such an effect is unattainable with other surface finishing techniques.

UPGRADE:

- new audio cables were installed; interconnect - made on a low-capacity DK4 cable, by Schulz-Kabel (Germany).
Separate signal and ground cables were run for each channel. The mass of the arm and turntable is also routed separately - through the cable shield. New "Amphenol" RCA plugs have been installed.

The polished steel base legs, made in the form of spikes, minimize the transfer of vibrations from the ground to the housing and turntable arm.

The turntable does not have an original cover, but we offer a replacement cover from the "Simple Cover" series, visible in the photos.
