DUAL 1216 turntable - from the early 1970s, in a beautiful finish with natural birch burl veneer. Great sound and original vintage style. Fully functional.
Dual 1216 - has a traditional idler drive, was manufactured around 1972. It offers clear sound combined with classic design. Upon request, we can prepare the turntable for use in the USA free of charge (replacement of the engine pulley and adaptation of the engine to an electrical voltage of 110-125 V, 60 Hz).
The turntable has been completely inspected and renovated - the old grease has been removed, the entire mechanism washed and re-greased. The engine has undergone a comprehensive technical inspection and lubrication - it holds the revolutions correctly. The arm lift grease has been replaced with a new one - the lift works with appropriate resistance. Replaced with a new anti-interference capacitor in the power supply path.
The turntable has normal signs of use, minor scratches and abrasions. Visually it is in very nice condition.
The turntable is functional, all functions work properly. Dual 1216 - is fully automatic: allows you to start playback with one lever, after it ends the arm automatically returns to the starting position. Start can also be initiated manually, bypassing the automation. Allows you to listen to vinyl records at three speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm. The latter speed allows you to listen to older shellac records (when using the appropriate cartridge). A separate switch allows you to select the diameter of the vinyl records being played: 17, 25 and 30 cm (6.69”, 9.84” and 11.81”).
Additionally, the turntable is equipped with "Anti-Skating" and "Pitch-Control" controls, giving greater control over the reproduced sound.
An original, used SHURE M75 type D cartridge was installed, with a new elliptical needle. The headshell can accommodate all cartridges with 1/2 inch mounting, weighing from 1 to 8 g (0.04 oz to 0.28 oz) - including mounting elements. The cartridge and stylus are in very good technical condition - data on the cartridge and stylus are provided based on electrical and microscopic measurements.
After using the appropriate element (so-called spindle), it is possible to automatically listen to up to 6 records - one after another. The spindle is included with the turntable.
FINISHING TECHNIQUE USED.
The wooden plinth (housing) of the turntable is made of wood, covered with natural birch burl veneer and finished with a classic wood decorating technique, i.e. shellac polish from a tampon (another name for "French polish"). In this case, over thirty layers of polish were applied.
This is a traditional, manual technique used for hundreds of years, e.g. for decorating and protecting wooden furniture, musical instruments, works of art, as well as in the conservation of monuments.
Shellac polish, like no other finishing coating, wonderfully brings out the grain of the wood, gives it a beautiful color and, penetrating the wood structure, an unprecedented depth - such an effect is unattainable with other surface finishing techniques.
UPGRADE:
- the old tonearm wiring was replaced with new copper litz wire in a cotton braid 7 x 0.07 mm (7 x 0.002”),
- the anti-interference capacitor and power cord were replaced with new ones,
- new audio cables were installed; interconnect - made on a low-capacity DK4 cable, by Schulz-Kabel (Germany).
In order to minimize interference, the signal and ground cables were run separately for each channel. The ground of the tonearm and turntable was also run separately - with a cable shield. New RCA "Amphenol" plugs were installed.
Polished steel base legs have been installed - made in the form of spikes, they minimize the transfer of vibrations from the ground to the housing and tonearm of the turntable.
The turntable does not have an original cover, but we offer a replacement cover from the "Simple Cover" series, visible in the photos.
